MEP Emil Radev (PPE) has raised concerns that interoperability requirements under the Digital Markets Act (DMA) for agentic AI could weaken privacy, security and system integrity protections built into mobile operating systems. In a parliamentary question submitted on 22 July 2026, Radev points to joint guidance from cybersecurity agencies of Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the UK and the US, which stresses the need for robust safeguards in agentic AI deployment. He asks the European Commission how it assesses whether existing DMA safeguards are sufficient to preserve these protections, and whether it will conduct a comprehensive assessment of privacy and cybersecurity risks linked to agentic AI interoperability, reflecting findings in future DMA guidance and reviews. Radev also proposes establishing a formal role for data protection, cybersecurity and consumer protection authorities in DMA implementation and enforcement to ensure interoperability measures are evaluated across competition, privacy, security and consumer protection objectives. The Commission is expected to reply within approximately six weeks, and its answer will signal policy direction on balancing interoperability with security in the context of rapidly evolving AI technologies.
