The 5th European Film Festival in Fiji, held from 16 to 25 July 2026, drew large audiences across four locations, with several screenings reaching full capacity and viewers sitting on stairs or queuing for the next show, the EU Delegation to the Pacific reported on 27 July 2026. EU Ambassador to the Pacific Barbara Plinkert said the festival “builds bridges between cultures that may be far apart on the map yet are connected by the things that matter most to all of us – family, friendship, courage, and hope – whether in Europe or here in the Pacific.” Resident EU Heads of Mission introduced their countries’ films, including Germany’s Chargé d’Affaires a.i. Melanie Freund, France’s Chargé d’Affaires a.i. Benjamin Delannoy, and Spain’s Chargé d’Affaires a.i. Jaione Cereijo. Latvia’s Ambassador to Australia and Special Envoy to the Pacific, Samija Šerifa, travelled to Suva to introduce the Latvian film.
The festival, now in its fifth edition, brought together children, students, families, and elders, with simultaneous regional launches in Lautoka and Labasa and an outdoor premiere in Pacific Harbour.
