The European Union presented its new EU-funded project 'Intellectual Property Protection and Enforcement in China: A Key to Sustainable Competitiveness of the EU' at a stakeholder engagement forum in Beijing on 25 June 2026. The event, hosted by the Delegation of the European Union to China, brought together representatives from Chinese IP authorities, EU institutions, European industry, and academia to strengthen dialogue and identify priorities for a more predictable IP environment for European businesses operating in China.
The forum follows an inaugural event held in Brussels on 10 March 2026, which launched the project. Implemented and co-funded by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), the new project builds on the legacy of the now-closed IP Key China project. While ensuring continuity, the forum addressed emerging challenges such as AI-driven innovation, digital enforcement, and green technology.
Participants discussed transparency and legal certainty in IP rules and enforcement, digital IP practices including AI and data-driven technologies, and support for EU small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) navigating China's complex IP landscape. The insights gained will directly inform targeted, customer-oriented activities under the new project framework.
The EU IP Project in China aims to monitor and analyse China's IP policy developments, advocate for EU interests in trade and innovation, and support European businesses in protecting their IP rights in China while addressing challenges and IP risks. The project is funded by the EU and co-funded by EUIPO.
