Counter-terrorism officials from the European Union and the United States convened in Washington, D.C., on June 24 to review joint priorities and advance bilateral and global counter-terrorism cooperation, including in the Middle East, Africa, and Central Asia. The meeting, announced by the European External Action Service (EEAS) on June 26, brought together delegations led by EEAS Special Envoy for Counter-terrorism Anna Strzaska and the U.S. Department of State’s acting Principal Deputy Coordinator for Counterterrorism Monica Jacobsen. The EU delegation also included representatives from the European Commission, the EU Counter-Terrorism Coordinator, and Europol.
The two sides discussed their shared assessment of the threat landscape and tangible steps to advance their counter-terrorism agenda. The dialogue underscores the continued importance of EU-US cooperation in addressing terrorism, with a focus on regions where both parties have strategic interests. No new policy measures or funding commitments were announced following the meeting.
