A regional training course on dispatch management in power systems has started in Tashkent, bringing together over 45 specialists from Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. The programme, running from 8 to 27 June 2026 in three consecutive batches, focuses on renewable energy integration and system flexibility, according to a press release from the EU Delegation to Turkmenistan dated 24 June 2026.
The training is hosted at the Coordinating Dispatch Center "Energiya" and includes representatives from the dispatch services of the National Electric Grid of Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenenergo Corporation, Shabakahoy Intikoli Bark OJSC (Tajikistan), and the National Dispatch Center under Uzbekistan's Ministry of Energy. Abdurashid Mirzaev, head of the host institution, highlighted that regional cooperation is built on trust between professionals and that joint training strengthens professional ties and lays the groundwork for closer coordination.
As variable renewable energy increases, system operators face growing challenges in balancing supply and demand in real time. The training covers dispatch management principles, operational planning, system analysis, and modern digital control approaches, enhancing decision-making skills under uncertainty with higher shares of renewables.
The course is organized by the EU4SustainableCentralAsia project "Renewable Energy in Central Asia" (EURECA), implemented by GIZ on behalf of the German government, and co-funded by the European Union under its Global Gateway strategy. The programme aims to better prepare system operators for managing increasingly complex power systems and supporting the reliable, flexible operation of an interconnected Central Asian grid amid the energy transition.
