European Pulse forum closed by Spain’s prime minister Pedro Sánchez, organized by POLITICO with beBarlet, brought together political and business leaders and experts to discuss Europe’s future. Sánchez defended the European project amid uncertainty, recalling Europe was born from political courage and its values of democracy, solidarity and social justice. He highlighted Spain’s role in pushing Europe to move forward with ambition and courage, noting euro-area growth, employment gains and reductions in poverty and inequality. He said, “We defend Europe because we cannot imagine another way of being in the world.” He argued Europe enables an ecological transition without sacrificing growth or wealth distribution, calling it “the Europe we want.” He outlined three priorities: a European Security and Defence union as a European public good; a stronger internal market and financial sovereignty to boost competitiveness and investment; and a reinforced social pillar as essential to the Union, including more concrete housing measures. He warned against a reactionary push to undermine Europe, insisting Europe must act coherently, uphold international law and remain open to trade and ideas.
