The Council of the European Union has issued a corrigendum to a decision amending restrictive measures against Russia, correcting a technical error in the Italian language version of the text. The rectification, published on 2 December 2026, fixes a cross-reference in the lists of prohibited ports and airports, changing the article number from 'Articolo 5 bis sexies' to 'Articolo 1 bis septies'. This ensures the legal accuracy of the sanctions regime under Council Decision 2014/512/CFSP, which targets Russia's actions destabilising Ukraine.
The corrigendum applies to a Council Decision adopted under the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP). It is a legislative act of a technical nature, correcting an obvious error in the Italian version without altering the substance of the sanctions. The error did not affect other language versions or the practical implementation of the measures.
Impact on stakeholders The correction has no material impact on EU member states, businesses, or individuals subject to the sanctions. It merely aligns the Italian text with the intended legal references, ensuring consistency across all official languages. The affected stakeholders—EU regulatory bodies, national authorities, and operators in the shipping and aviation sectors—face no new obligations or changes to existing restrictions.
Institutional follow-up No further action is required from other EU institutions. The corrigendum is effective upon publication in the Official Journal of the European Union, and the corrected Italian version will be used for legal interpretation going forward.
