A Commission regulation published on 23 July 2026 amends Annex II to Regulation (EC) No 396/2005, setting or confirming maximum residue levels (MRLs) for six active substances — acequinocyl, deltamethrin, dodine, maleic hydrazide, pinoxaden, and prothioconazole — in or on specific plant and animal products. The regulation, adopted by the European Commission, applies to all EU Member States and EEA countries and enters into force on the twentieth day after publication in the Official Journal.
The regulation updates MRLs for dozens of crops and animal commodities based on reasoned opinions from the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). For acequinocyl, new MRLs are set for blueberries, cranberries, currants, and gooseberries. Deltamethrin MRLs are established for kiwi fruits, melons, and watermelons. Dodine receives a new MRL for grapes. Maleic hydrazide MRLs are set for a wide range of animal products including swine muscle and fat, bovine and other livestock edible offals, poultry tissues, sheep and goat milk, and bird eggs. For pinoxaden, existing MRLs for barley, wheat, and rye are confirmed, and footnotes on tentative MRLs for livestock commodities are deleted after confirmatory data addressed data gaps. Prothioconazole MRLs are set for celeriacs, rapeseeds, garlic, pome fruits, stone fruits, cucurbits, and rice, with a footnote on tentative MRL for rapeseeds deleted.
All MRLs are set at levels recommended by EFSA, ensuring consumer safety while allowing trade. The regulation removes tentative-status footnotes for pinoxaden and prothioconazole, providing regulatory certainty for producers and importers. The update impacts food business operators, national enforcement authorities, and pesticide manufacturers, who must comply with the new limits.
