A corrigendum published by the Council of the European Union on 3 July 2026 corrects an error in the Danish language version of Directive 2014/35/EU on low-voltage electrical equipment. The correction, adopted under procedure 2(b) for obvious errors in a single language version, replaces the phrase "skal de straks anmode den pågældende erhvervsdrivende om at træffe" with "pålægger de straks den relevante erhvervsdrivende at træffe" in Article 19(1), second paragraph. This changes the obligation on market surveillance authorities from "shall immediately request the economic operator to take" to "shall immediately require the relevant economic operator to take" corrective measures.
The change tightens the language in the Danish version, making the requirement for economic operators to take corrective action mandatory rather than a request. The correction applies only to the Danish (DA) language version and does not affect other language versions or the substance of the directive. Member States have eight days from publication to submit observations to the Council's legal service.
Directive 2014/35/EU harmonises EU rules on electrical equipment designed for use within certain voltage limits (50-1000 V for alternating current and 75-1500 V for direct current), covering safety requirements for products such as household appliances, cables, and switchgear. The directive has been in force since April 2016 and is part of the EU's New Legislative Framework for product safety. The corrigendum ensures that the Danish text aligns with the original legislative intent, where market surveillance authorities must compel compliance rather than merely request it.
The correction primarily affects Danish market surveillance authorities, who now have a clearer legal obligation to enforce corrective actions. Economic operators in Denmark face a stricter enforcement environment, as authorities must require rather than request remedial measures. Other EU member states and economic operators are unaffected. The change does not alter the directive's technical requirements or market access conditions.
The corrigendum is final and does not require further legislative steps. Member States must ensure their national transposition of Article 19(1) reflects the corrected obligation, though the Danish version is the only one directly amended.
