Police unions, including VSOA and NSPV, plan joint action against the Flemish government’s policies, with a demonstration scheduled for Friday, 24 April from the Wetstraat to the Brussels Justice Palace. Ortwin Depoortere, a member of parliament and chair of the Interior Affairs Committee, says Vlaams Belang fully sympathizes with the police. He accuses the De Wever government of breaking promises after more than a year in office, criticizes the lack of statutory reforms and the NAVAP end-of-career scheme, and highlights difficulties with i-Police, CORESPO, and the fight against violence and organized crime. Depoortere notes that security apparently is not a priority for the De Wever government and that Quintin excludes experienced personnel from decision-making. Vlaams Belang backs the police’s protests and has published a comprehensive safety program, arguing that after decades of mismanagement, Vlaams Belang is the only viable alternative.
