Deputy Alexandru Bordian, member of the Commission for Romanians living abroad, addressed Prime Minister Ilie-Gavril Bolojan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Radu-Mirută, and Attila-Zoltán Cseke, Minister of Development, Public Works and Administration, with a written question from Galați’s 18th constituency.

He highlights the 4 April 1944 bombing of Bucharest by Anglo-American air forces, which left around 3,000 dead and over 2,500 injured, mostly civilians. The deputy notes that many victims are buried in mass graves at Calvin Cemetery in Giulești, known today as “Cimitirul 4 Aprilie,” and argues that the site lacks proper memorialization and presentation of history. He contrasts this with memorial practices in several European states. The deputy asks whether the parcel is officially recognized as a collective memorial site and whether the National Defence Ministry, via the Office for Heroes Memorial, has inventoried and planned memorial works. He further asks if there is, at the government or municipal level, a project to redesign the parcel and erect a monument or memorial signs for the victims, and whether an annual official commemoration in Bucharest is being considered.
