MEP Mihai Tudose (S&D) has asked the European Commission what concrete measures it plans to take to guarantee kerosene supply in the coming months, support the aviation sector in case of shortage, and protect passengers if flights are cancelled due to fuel shortages. The question, submitted on 24 April 2026, comes against the backdrop of energy blockages triggered by the war in Iran, which has raised the risk of a systemic aviation fuel crisis.

Tudose warns that if the Middle East conflict continues, the EU could face wholesale flight cancellations just as the summer season approaches. He notes that the Commission's announced measures so far only cover monitoring of stocks and supplies, while large airline companies and the European Airports Association have already flagged the danger.

Tudose demands specific actions on supply guarantees, sector support, and passenger protection. His policy orientation is clearly interventionist, pushing the Commission to move beyond monitoring and adopt proactive measures to avert a crisis.

Under Rule 144, the Commission is expected to reply within approximately six weeks. The answer will signal whether the EU executive plans to activate emergency mechanisms, coordinate member state reserves, or propose legislative measures to mitigate the impact on aviation and consumers.
