The European Union has welcomed the framework agreement signed by Lebanon and Israel in Washington, describing it as a positive perspective for de-escalation and peace. In a statement on 27 June 2026, the EEAS spokesperson commended the constructive engagement of all parties and urged them to implement their commitments, including through the newly established trilateral Military Coordination Group. The EU reiterated that any lasting solution must be anchored in the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which calls for the withdrawal of all forces from Lebanese territory and the disarmament of all non-state armed groups.
The statement also highlighted the EU's recently approved 100-million-euro assistance package for the Lebanese Armed Forces, which supports the Lebanese government's efforts to assert state authority and monopoly over arms. The framework agreement marks a diplomatic breakthrough between the two countries, with the EU positioning itself as a key supporter of the process through financial aid and political backing.
