The EU Council's Working Party on International Food and Agricultural Questions (FAO) is scheduled to meet on 6 July 2026 in Brussels to prepare EU positions for upcoming FAO committee sessions and discuss the Presidency's programme, according to a notice of meeting and provisional agenda published on 30 June 2026.

The meeting will open with the Presidency presenting its programme, followed by an update from the Head of the EU Delegation in Rome on developments and outlook at FAO, including an exchange of views. A key agenda item is the discussion of draft Council conclusions on One Health in agrifood systems, reflecting the EU's focus on integrating human, animal, and environmental health.

Substantial preparation is planned for two major FAO committee sessions in July 2026. The 77th session of the Committee on Commodity Problems, scheduled for 13-15 July in Rome, will require the working party to agree on a Declaration of Competences and Voting Rights, the EU position, and organisational aspects. Similarly, the 30th session of the Committee on Agriculture, set for 20-24 July in Rome, will involve preparation of the EU's declaration, position, and organisational arrangements.

The chair of the Committee on World Food Security (CFS) will present to the working party, and a discussion on building resilient food systems is also on the agenda. Under "Any Other Business," the Presidency will provide information on the 28th session of the Committee on Forestry (Rome, 28 September – 2 October 2026) and the 37th session of the Committee on Fisheries (Rome, 7-11 September 2026).

The meeting, which has no prior coverage in the last 180 days, will take place at 10:30 in the Justus Lipsius Building in Brussels. The outcomes will shape the EU's negotiating stance at these FAO sessions, impacting stakeholders such as EU agricultural producers, food industry operators, and EU institutions involved in international food policy.
