The European Union and India concluded the first EU-India Tech Business Forum in New Delhi on 4 June 2026, a move to strengthen private-sector collaboration in advanced technologies under the Trade and Technology Council (TTC). The forum, organised by the EU Delegation to India and Bhutan and India's Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), brought together over 100 European and Indian tech companies, policymakers, researchers, and civil society to discuss semiconductors, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data governance, and digital public infrastructure. The event aimed to boost interoperability, cooperate on standards, and facilitate market access, building on the Comprehensive Strategic Agenda Towards 2030 agreed by EU and Indian leaders earlier this year.
EU Ambassador to India Hervé Delphin highlighted the importance of working with trusted partners to diversify supply chains and reduce over-reliance on certain sources. He noted that Europe brings strengths in advanced technology and regulation, while India offers scale, talent, and dynamic applications. The forum also serves to operationalise the recently concluded EU-India Free Trade Agreement and the Administrative Arrangement on Advanced Electronic Signatures and Seals signed under the TTC in January 2026. Additionally, the recently launched European Legal Gateway Office in India aims to facilitate mobility of Indian ICT professionals, students, and researchers to the EU, supporting the EU Digital Decade target of 20 million ICT specialists by 2030.
Secretary of MeitY S. Krishnan emphasised shared responsibility in ensuring technology serves humanity, while Secretary (West) of the Ministry of External Affairs Sibi George described the partnership as predictable, credible, and strategically deep. The forum's outcomes will shape the next steps in EU-India digital and trade cooperation, with business and innovation remaining central to the partnership.
