On 29 June 2026, the Council of the European Union formally adopted a regulation amending Regulations (EU) 2024/1689, (EU) 2018/1139 and (EU) 2023/1230 to simplify the implementation of harmonised rules on artificial intelligence, known as the Digital Omnibus on AI. The legislative act was approved at the 4188th Council meeting (Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumer Affairs) in Luxembourg, following Coreper approval on 24 June 2026. The package aims to reduce administrative burdens and streamline compliance for businesses and public authorities subject to the EU's AI framework, particularly by aligning obligations across the AI Act, aviation safety rules, and machinery regulation.

Stakeholders impacted include AI developers and deployers, who will benefit from clearer and more consistent rules, potentially lowering compliance costs. National supervisory authorities will face adjusted coordination requirements. The regulation enters into force on the twentieth day after publication in the Official Journal, with most provisions applying from 2 August 2026. No prior coverage of this file exists in the last 180 days.
