The Delegation of the European Union to Uzbekistan hosted a screening of the documentary Mr. Nobody Against Putin at the Ambassador's Residence in Tashkent on 4 June 2026, bringing together diplomats, civil society representatives, and journalists to reflect on war, propaganda, and civic courage.
The film, directed by David Borenstein and co-directed by Pavel Talankin, tells the story of Pavel 'Pasha' Talankin, a Russian primary school teacher who documents the militarisation of his school and community after Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, eventually becoming an international whistleblower. Ambassador Toivo Klaar opened the event, stating that the film 'offers a spark of hope' and shows that 'even seemingly small acts have the power to challenge systems based on fear and falsehood.'
Following the screening, participants discussed the protection of fundamental freedoms, media literacy, and support for independent journalism and civil society. The event is part of the EU's ongoing efforts to promote peace, dialogue, and democratic values, and to strengthen societal resilience against disinformation.
