The EU fruit juice and nectars sector, through AIJN, emphasises environmental responsibility and proactive engagement on sustainability. Challenges include limited domestic production, seasonality, and ensuring all-year supply. Reducing emissions, energy use, and water consumption across the supply chain are key aims, with packaging innovations meeting consumer expectations. A standardised ECO-footprint method has been proposed by European bodies but not yet adopted across the 27 EU countries. Initiatives include the Fruit Juice CSR Platform co-funded by the European Commission, and a Code of Conduct aligned with UN, ILO, FABs, and other international standards to monitor progress.
