A Commission Delegated Regulation published on 13 July 2026 specifies the number and titles of variables for the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) domain for the reference year 2027, affecting EU Member States and extending to the European Economic Area (EEA). The regulation supplements Regulation (EU) 2019/1700, which empowers the Commission to adopt delegated acts for variable specifications. The number of variables must not exceed, by more than 5%, the mandatory variables required by Eurostat on 3 November 2019. Variables are reassessed and rotated between reference years to cover policy needs while limiting reporting burden. The Commission consulted national experts at the 'Information Society Statistics' expert group meeting on 4–5 February 2026, and the Expert Group 'National Statistical Institutes of the European Statistical System'. The regulation enters into force on the twentieth day after publication in the Official Journal of the European Union. It has no implications for the EU budget. This regulation sets the ICT data variables for 2027, ensuring policy coverage while capping the increase in mandatory variables at 5% over the 2019 baseline.
