The Council of the European Union has published a corrigendum to Directive 96/53/EC, correcting a translation error in the Swedish language version. The correction, dated 14 July 2026, replaces the word "driftskompatibilitet" with "förenlighet" in Article 10d.5, third paragraph, to ensure the text accurately reflects the intended meaning of compatibility with all vehicle types.

The corrigendum was adopted under Procedure 2(b), which applies to obvious errors in a single language version. Member States have eight days from publication to submit observations to the Council's Directorate for Quality of Legislation. The original directive, which sets maximum authorized dimensions for road vehicles in national and international traffic and maximum authorized weights in international traffic, was published in the Official Journal on 17 September 1996.

This technical correction does not alter the substance of the directive but ensures linguistic consistency in the Swedish version. The change affects only the Swedish text and has no impact on other language versions or on the application of the directive in other member states.
