On 7 July 2026, the European Parliament adopted a resolution formally approving the mobilisation of EUR 210 000 from the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund for Displaced Workers (EGF) to finance technical assistance activities at the initiative of the European Commission. The funds, representing about 0.60 % of the maximum annual EGF budget for 2026, will support administrative tasks such as monitoring, evaluation, data gathering, communication, and outreach to Member States with low uptake of EGF support. The resolution endorses the Commission's proposal (COM(2026)0360) under the EGF Regulation (EU) 2021/691.

The resolution, based on a report by the Committee on Budgets, calls for systematic invitation of Parliament to EGF meetings and seminars, continued reduction of administrative burdens, and shorter application-to-delivery timelines. It prioritises training and reskilling for displaced workers and demands rigorous monitoring and evaluation of technical assistance spending to ensure sound financial management. The Parliament also insists on transparency, budgetary scrutiny, and detailed reporting on outcomes, including impact evaluations focused on reintegration into employment and training effectiveness.

The technical assistance will enable the Commission to carry out essential support functions, including preparatory work, control and audit activities, maintenance of the EGF website and electronic data exchange system, and awareness-raising campaigns targeting Member States facing restructuring. By focusing on outreach to underutilising Member States, the measure aims to ensure equal access to EGF support across the EU, ultimately helping displaced workers return to the labour market and demonstrating EU solidarity.
