On 22 May 2026, the Council of the European Union adopted Regulation (EU) 2026/1164, a corrigendum correcting an obvious error in the Italian language version of Regulation (EU) 2023/1529 concerning restrictive measures against Iran. The correction applies only to the Italian text and changes the conjunction in the title from "e in considerazione" to "nonché" in the phrase describing Iran's actions that compromise freedom of navigation in the Middle East. No substantive changes are made to the legal text.

The corrigendum was issued under procedure 2(b) for obvious errors in a single language version. Member States had three days to submit observations to the Council's Directorate Quality of Legislation. This technical correction does not alter the scope or effect of the sanctions regime, which targets Iran's military support to Russia's war in Ukraine and to armed groups in the Middle East and Red Sea region. The original regulation was adopted in 2023 and has been amended several times since.

As a purely linguistic fix, the corrigendum has no impact on stakeholders, including EU member states, businesses subject to sanctions compliance, or individuals and entities listed under the restrictive measures. No further institutional follow-up is expected.
