On 30 June 2026, the S&D Group tabled three amendments to the European Parliament's report on the 2025 Commission report on Moldova, updating factual references to reflect recent developments in the country's EU accession process. The amendments, authored by S&D MEP Sven Mikser, are purely technical and do not alter the report's political direction.
Amendment 1 replaces the reference to the "first" Republic of Moldova-EU Summit of 4 July 2025 with the "second" Summit of 22 June 2026, ensuring the report cites the most recent high-level meeting. Amendments 2 and 3 add a new recital and revise an operational paragraph to formally record that accession negotiations on Cluster 1 (Fundamentals) were opened on 15 June 2026. The original text had only noted that Moldova was "ready" to open negotiations and urged the Council to act; the amendments shift the language from anticipation to confirmation.
As proposed amendments, these changes are still to be examined and voted on by the committee and subsequently by the plenary before becoming Parliament's position. No amendments from other political groups were included in this set, so no divergences can be identified. The underlying report, drafted by Sven Mikser, covers the European Commission's 2025 assessment of Moldova's reform progress and EU integration path.
