Polish MEP Arkadiusz Mularczyk (ECR) has asked the European Commission whether it plans to introduce support programmes for EU hauliers, review the liberalisation of road transport with Ukraine, and create safeguarding mechanisms to ensure a level playing field. The written question, submitted on 27 May 2026, highlights the severe pressure on Polish and European road transport companies, particularly SMEs, due to the war in Ukraine, economic slowdown in Germany, rising costs, and competition from Ukrainian hauliers who operate outside EU mobility package rules.

Mularczyk notes that as of January 2026, 1,234 Polish transport companies have disappeared and hundreds more face bankruptcy. He warns that the sector, a pillar of the common market and European supply chains, is at risk of collapse without Commission action.
