On 7 July 2026, the European Parliament adopted a legislative resolution approving the joint text agreed by the Conciliation Committee for a regulation amending the EU's air passenger rights framework. The resolution, adopted under the ordinary legislative procedure (third reading), finalises the Parliament's role in updating Regulation (EC) No 261/2004 on compensation and assistance for denied boarding, cancellations, or long delays, and Regulation (EC) No 2027/97 on air carrier liability for passengers and baggage. The revised rules aim to strengthen passenger protections, clarify airline obligations, and ensure consistent enforcement across Member States, enhancing legal certainty for both passengers and carriers. The resolution instructs the President of the Parliament to sign the act jointly with the Council President and arrange for its publication in the Official Journal. This step concludes the legislative process, with the new rules set to take effect following publication.
