On 8 July 2026, the European Parliament adopted a legislative resolution giving its consent to a Protocol amending the Euro-Mediterranean Aviation Agreement between the EU and Morocco to include Croatia following its accession to the European Union. The Parliament acted on a recommendation from the Committee on Transport and Tourism under the consent procedure set out in Article 218 TFEU. The resolution instructs the Parliament's President to forward its position to the Council, the Commission, the member state governments and parliaments, and the Kingdom of Morocco. The legal basis for the decision is Article 100(2) and Article 218(6), second subparagraph, point (a) TFEU. The Parliament's consent is a procedural step that enables the Council to formally conclude the Protocol, thereby legally extending the EU-Morocco aviation agreement to cover Croatia. This ensures uniform application of the agreement across all EU member states, maintains the coherence of the Euro-Mediterranean aviation framework, and reinforces bilateral aviation relations between the EU and Morocco. The Protocol updates the existing legal instrument to reflect the enlarged composition of the European Union. The Parliament's approval is a routine but necessary step in the EU's external aviation policy, with no substantive changes to the agreement's provisions beyond the inclusion of Croatia.
