The European Union Delegation to Mongolia has awarded Adrien Mourgues the EU's 20 Years of Service Medal, recognizing two decades of service across EU Delegations in Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea, and Mongolia. Ambassador Ina Marciulionyte presented the medal on behalf of the EU on 15 June 2026 in Ulaanbaatar.
Mourgues began his EU career on 1 September 2005 at the Delegation of the European Commission to Vanuatu, where he served until the Delegation closed over twenty years later. He subsequently served in Papua New Guinea before joining the EU Delegation to Mongolia in February 2022, bringing over three decades of experience in the South Pacific.
Across his career, Mourgues has championed development partnerships spanning education, TVET, public works, budget support, WaSH, and trade, with a particular focus on rural development. He highlighted the STREIT project in Papua New Guinea's Greater Sepik region, an integrated rural development initiative focusing on cocoa, vanilla, and fisheries value chains, as a source of pride. In Mongolia, his work continues through initiatives including the EU's Forest Partnership, supporting efforts to combat pasture degradation and protect nomadic herding traditions.
Mourgues thanked colleagues, government counterparts, experts, ambassadors, and his family for their support throughout his career. The medal is awarded by the EU for loyal service, recognizing professionalism and dedication to the EU's development mission across multiple postings.
