A notice of meeting and provisional agenda published by the EU Council schedules a meeting of the Working Party on Fisheries Policy for 16 July 2026 in Brussels. The meeting will prepare EU positions for several international fisheries meetings and examine a draft regulation on Union support for the Common Fisheries Policy, the European Ocean Pact, and maritime/aquaculture policy under the National and Regional Partnership Fund for the 2028-2034 period.
The agenda includes preparation for the 45th Annual Meeting of the Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR) scheduled for 19-30 October 2026 in Hobart, Australia, based on document ST 11669/26. Similarly, the working party will prepare for the 104th Annual Meeting of the Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission (IATTC) set for 24 August to 4 September 2026 in Lisbon, Portugal, drawing on document ST 11654/26. The 37th Session of the Committee on Fisheries (COFI) of the Food and Agriculture Organization, taking place 7-11 September 2026 in Rome, will also be prepared using document ST 11650/26.
A key item is the examination of a Presidency compromise on a regulation proposal for Union support to the Common Fisheries Policy, European Ocean Pact, and maritime/aquaculture policy under the National and Regional Partnership Fund for 2028-2034 (document ST 5495/26 REV 6, to follow). This regulation will shape EU funding for fisheries and maritime sectors for the seven-year period, affecting member states, fishing communities, and aquaculture producers.
The working party is also expected to agree on the Second Joint RFMO transpositions 2026 covering ICCAT, SPRFMO, NAFO, IATTC, WCPFC, and IOTC (document ST 11739/26). Additionally, it will prepare a declaration of competences for the GFCM Compliance committee meeting scheduled for 15-17 September 2026 in Rome (document ST 11795/26, to follow).
The meeting will take place at the Justus Lipsius building starting at 09:00. The agenda also includes any other business. The outcomes will inform subsequent Council decisions on EU fisheries policy and international commitments.
