The Council of the European Union, on 29 June 2026, issued a corrigendum to Regulation (EU) 2021/1139 establishing the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMFAF), correcting an error in the Croatian and Dutch language versions. The correction relaxes the eligibility condition for investments on fishing vessels: vessels must have carried out fishing activities for less than 60 days total over the two calendar years preceding the application, rather than less than 60 days per year as previously stated. The corrigendum, adopted under Procedure 2(b) for obvious errors in a number of language versions, removes the words "per year" from Article 13, point (l) in the Croatian and Dutch texts. Member States have eight days to submit observations to the Council's Directorate for Quality of Legislation. The change broadens access to EMFAF support for vessel owners with intermittent fishing activity, potentially benefiting small-scale and part-time operators.
However, it may reduce the fund's environmental impact by allowing more vessels with low activity levels to qualify for modernisation investments. The European Commission and national managing authorities will need to adjust their application guidelines accordingly. No prior coverage of this corrigendum exists in recent records.
