On 27 July 2026, the European Commission published a corrigendum (C(2026)5553) correcting four terminology errors in the Danish language version of Regulation (EU) 2019/2021 on ecodesign requirements for electronic displays. The corrections swap the Danish terms for "separation" and "disassembly" throughout the regulation to fix a systematic translation error that could affect manufacturers and compliance bodies interpreting end-of-life requirements.
The corrigendum amends recital 11, Article 8(2)(g), Annex I points 25-27, and Annex II Section D point 5(b). In recital 11, the term "adskillelse" (separation) is replaced with "demontering" (disassembly) in the context of WEEE reuse, disassembly and recovery. Article 8(2)(g) similarly replaces "adskillelsen" with "demonteringen" when assessing end-of-life disassembly and recyclability. In Annex I, the definitions are swapped so that "demontering" now means irreversible splitting into materials or components, while "adskillelse" means reversible splitting without functional damage. The order in point 27 is reversed to "demontering eller adskillelse" (disassembly or separation). In Annex II, Section D, point 5(b), the term "demonteringsoversigt" (disassembly overview) is replaced with "adskillelsesoversigt" (separation overview).
Regulation (EU) 2019/2021, originally adopted on 1 October 2019 and published in the Official Journal on 5 December 2019, sets ecodesign requirements for electronic displays such as televisions and monitors. The regulation aims to improve energy efficiency and facilitate repair, recycling, and end-of-life treatment. The Danish translation errors, while not affecting the substance of the regulation, could have led to confusion for Danish-speaking manufacturers and national enforcement authorities when interpreting requirements related to disassembly and separation of components during recycling.
The corrigendum is a minor administrative correction with no impact on the regulatory obligations themselves.
