On 16 July 2026, the European Union issued a statement at the OSCE Permanent Council No. 1573 in Vienna commemorating the 31st anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide, one of the darkest moments in European history. The statement, delivered by the EU Delegation to the International Organisations in Vienna, honours the more than 8,300 Bosniaks killed in July 1995 and expresses solidarity with victims, survivors, and families of the missing. The EU calls on the political leadership of Bosnia and Herzegovina to pursue dialogue, reconciliation, and unity, rejecting genocide denial, revisionism, and the glorification of convicted war criminals. The EU reaffirms its commitment to Bosnia and Herzegovina's stability, security, territorial integrity, and European perspective as a single, united, and sovereign country. The statement is aligned with Albania, Andorra, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Republic of Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Norway, San Marino, Türkiye, and Ukraine.
