The European Commission has proposed a Council Decision to conclude an agreement with Algeria enabling Eurojust to exchange operational personal data with Algerian judicial authorities for criminal justice cooperation. The agreement provides the necessary legal basis and data protection safeguards required under the Eurojust Regulation, filling a gap where only working arrangements existed. Negotiations, authorized by the Council in March 2021, concluded in August 2025 with Algeria’s final agreement in February 2026. The deal aligns with existing EU policy and recent legislative frameworks strengthening Eurojust’s cooperation with third countries, including on terrorism and core international crimes.
