On 8-9 June 2026, the European Union organised training workshops in Kyrgyzstan on EU sanctions, with experts from the European Commission and EU private businesses participating. The primary aim was to raise awareness of EU sanctions and their application, and to prevent possible circumvention of these measures.
The training was a follow-up to the first such activity organised in Bishkek in 2023. The first day gathered government officials, while the second day targeted Kyrgyz private operators interested in improving their awareness of EU sanctions. The workshops consisted of presentations and interactive Q&A sessions, conducted by a team of EU representatives and sanctions experts. The event was supported by the EU Delegation to the Kyrgyz Republic and the International Science and Technology Center (ISTC).
No prior coverage of this specific event exists in the last 180 days.
The workshops primarily benefit Kyrgyz government officials and private operators by improving their understanding of EU sanctions, reducing the risk of inadvertent violations. For EU businesses, the training helps protect their supply chains from sanctions evasion. The EU itself gains stronger enforcement of its sanctions regime through international cooperation. The workshops impose no direct costs on participants, but may lead to increased compliance burdens for Kyrgyz firms trading with sanctioned entities.
