European Commissioner for the Mediterranean Dubravka Suica arrived in Egypt on 7 July 2026 for a two-day visit focused on implementing the EU-Egypt Strategic and Comprehensive Partnership and promoting youth engagement under the Pact for the Mediterranean. The visit includes participation in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) Secretariat and the handover of its Presidency to the European Parliament, as well as meetings with young people alongside the Anna Lindh Foundation and EU MedBridge.
During her stay, Suica is scheduled to take stock of progress in investment and economic reforms, research, innovation, and opportunities for young people under the EU-Egypt partnership framework. The visit also aims to strengthen cooperation among elected representatives at a time of growing geopolitical uncertainty. Discussions with youth will focus on flagship initiatives such as the Youth Parliamentary Assembly for the Mediterranean, the Mediterranean University, and the protection and promotion of shared cultural heritage. The visit underscores the EU's commitment to deepening ties with Egypt and advancing regional cooperation in the Mediterranean.
