A European Commission corrigendum published on 15 July 2026 (C(2026) 5220) corrects three linguistic errors in the German version of Delegated Regulation (EU) 2024/249, which sets common data requirements for customs information exchange and storage. The changes affect all customs declarants and their representatives by aligning the German text with the intended legal meaning.
The corrigendum amends data elements for exporter (re-export) and importer (all relevant columns except H6 and H7) on pages 385, 390, and 391 of the regulation. Specifically, the phrase "in deren Namen" (in whose name) is replaced with "für deren Rechnung" (on whose behalf) for the identification of the party lodging the declaration or on whose behalf it is lodged. This ensures that the German wording reflects the correct legal concept of acting for someone's account, rather than merely in their name.
Delegated Regulation (EU) 2024/249, originally adopted on 30 November 2023 and published in the Official Journal on 12 February 2024, amended Delegated Regulation (EU) 2015/2446 to harmonise data requirements for customs procedures. The corrigendum does not alter the substance of the regulation but rectifies translation inconsistencies that could have led to misinterpretation by customs authorities and declarants.
The impact on stakeholders is limited to legal clarity. Customs declarants and their representatives will benefit from unambiguous wording, reducing the risk of procedural errors. National customs authorities may need to update their internal guidance to reflect the corrected phrasing. No changes to IT systems or operational processes are required, as the correction is purely linguistic.
