On 10 July 2026, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas and Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos issued a joint statement on the 31st anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide, paying tribute to over 8,300 Bosniak men and boys killed in July 1995. The statement, published by the European External Action Service, expresses solidarity with victims' families and survivors, and calls on leaders in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the wider region to choose responsibility over division and to support the process of finding and identifying remaining victims. The EU reaffirms its commitment to Bosnia and Herzegovina's European future as a sovereign, united, multiethnic and democratic country. The statement also condemns genocide denial, revisionism, and the glorification of convicted war criminals, noting the UN General Assembly's declaration two years ago of 11 July as the International Day of Reflection and Commemoration of the 1995 Genocide in Srebrenica.
