The Council of the European Union has published a corrigendum to Directive 92/57/EEC, correcting an error in the Polish language version of Article 3(1). The correction, dated 26 June 2026, replaces the word "inwestor" (investor) with "wykonawca" (contractor) in the provision requiring the client or project supervisor to appoint at least one safety and health coordinator on construction sites where more than one contractor is working. The change aligns the Polish text with the original meaning of the directive, which has been in force since 1992 and sets minimum safety and health requirements for temporary or mobile construction sites.

The corrigendum applies only to the Polish language version of the directive, as published in the Official Journal L 245 of 26 August 1992 (Polish special edition, Chapter 5, Volume 6, page 71). The correction was made under procedure 2(b), which covers obvious errors in a single language version. Member States have eight days from the publication date to submit observations to the Council's Directorate for Quality of Legislation.

This technical correction does not alter the substance of the directive, which remains unchanged in all other language versions. The directive, adopted on 24 June 1992, is the eighth individual directive under Article 16(1) of Framework Directive 89/391/EEC and has been transposed into national law across the EU. The error in the Polish version could have led to confusion about who bears the obligation to appoint a coordinator, potentially shifting responsibility from contractors to investors. The correction ensures that the Polish text now correctly reflects the original intent that the coordinator requirement is triggered by the presence of multiple contractors on site.

The corrigendum is a routine administrative measure and does not require further legislative action. It will be published in the Official Journal of the European Union.
