The Working Party for Schengen Matters / Mixed Committee (EU-Iceland, Norway, Switzerland, Liechtenstein) will meet on 3 July 2026 at 10:00 in Brussels to adopt its agenda and discuss Schengen governance and evaluations, according to a notice of meeting published by the Council on 30 June 2026.
The meeting, held at the Justus Lipsius building in a 2+2 format, will cover several key items. Agenda item 2 focuses on follow-up to the June 2026 Schengen Council meeting and the work plan for the second semester, with information from the Presidency and Commission. Item 3 provides an update on the Schengen Barometer+ (document 8991/26), including a presentation by the Commission and an exchange of views. Item 4 addresses the implementation of Priority Actions for the Schengen Council cycle 2026-2027 (document 8992/26), with presentations by Switzerland and Croatia on best practices, a presentation by Europol, and an exchange of views.
Item 5 offers an update on ongoing and planned Schengen evaluation activities, presented by the Commission. Item 6 concerns the 2021 Schengen evaluation of Italy, specifically an assessment of progress on the action plan for return deficiencies, based on a verification visit (document 9246/26 to be issued), presented by the Commission. Item 7 covers any other business, including the state of play of the Schengen evaluation of Cyprus.
Frontex, eu-LISA, Europol, EUAA, FRA, and CEPOL are invited to participate in items marked with an asterisk. The meeting advances Schengen governance and evaluation work, with no member state excluded from the agenda. The discussions will inform future Council decisions on Schengen area management and compliance.
