The Council of the European Union has issued a corrigendum to the Portuguese language version of Regulation (EC) No 725/2004 on enhancing ship and port facility security, correcting an error in Article 3(6) concerning the deadline for periodic reviews of port facility security assessments. The corrigendum, published on 29 June 2026, changes the reference point for the five-year review cycle from the date of drawing up the security plan to the date of carrying out the assessments or their last revision. This correction applies only to the Portuguese version and aligns it with the original intent of the regulation, which requires that port facility security assessments be reviewed at least every five years from the assessment date, not the plan date. Member States have eight days to submit observations to the Council's Directorate for Quality of Legislation. The corrigendum has been transmitted to the European Parliament. The change ensures consistency across all language versions and clarifies the obligation for port authorities, impacting compliance timelines for port facility operators and national authorities responsible for maritime security.
