EU leadership in global health continues as the European Commission pledged €700 million to the Global Fund to defeat HIV, tuberculosis, and malaria, plus €46.5 million for health security in Africa and Europe and €50 million for AMR and neglected tropical diseases R&D. Industry partners across the animal value chain welcomed the One Health approach and urged prevention over reaction, arguing vaccination, biosecurity, resilient feeding and surveillance should be the first line of defense rather than mass culling. They cited a 2025 WOAH resolution and calls from the European Parliament and Council to remove trade barriers linked to disease, highlighting 547 million poultry losses from HPAI 2023-25 and a €1 billion German cost from FMD in 2025 as reasons to act.
