Nicolas Lyrakides highlighted a well-connected European Union in transport as a priority of Cyprus’ rotating presidency in the EU. The presidency concludes next June, and to review the transport work done in recent months, the Chamber held a breakfast-debate on May 7 with Nicolas Lyrakides, Transport and Communications Adviser at the Cyprus Permanent Representation to the EU. Lyrakides outlined the presidency’s priorities and progress, including passenger rights, boosting competitiveness, simplifying transport, and investing in connectivity. He noted these actions aim to reduce fragmentation of strategic decisions across member states and to jointly address the fuel crisis. He concluded with a pragmatic, balanced commitment to greater European competitiveness through cooperation. Attendees discussed passenger rights and renewable fuels, and Lyrakides expressed thanks for the lively debate.
