The Council of the European Union’s Working Party on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development will meet via videoconference on 1 July 2026 at 10:15, according to a notice of meeting and provisional agenda published by the Council on 24 June 2026. The meeting, chaired by the Irish Presidency, will focus on sustainable development tools, national reviews, and preparations for upcoming UN events.
The agenda includes a presentation of the SDG Impact Assessment Tool by Wexsus (West Sweden Nexus for Sustainable Development), followed by an exchange of views. Estonia will present its Voluntary National Review for the 2026 High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) at UN Headquarters in New York, scheduled for July 7-15. Italy will present its Voluntary National Local Youth Review for the same HLPF session. The EU Delegation to the UN in New York will update on preparations for the HLPF High-Level Segment (July 13-15). Commission services will provide an update on preparations for the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) COP17. The Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) will present the Sustainable Development Report 2026.
This meeting is a routine coordination session among EU member state experts, with no legislative decisions expected. The Working Party serves as a preparatory body for the Council’s environment and development configurations, aligning EU positions ahead of international forums. The Irish Presidency’s introductory remarks will set the tone for discussions on integrating the SDGs into EU and national policies.
EU member state representatives will gain insights into the SDG Impact Assessment Tool, potentially influencing national policy evaluations. The presentations of national reviews by Estonia and Italy may highlight best practices and challenges, affecting peer learning among member states. The EU Delegation’s update on HLPF preparations will shape the EU’s coordinated stance at the UN. The SDSN report provides independent assessment data that could inform EU and national SDG strategies. No binding measures or financial implications arise from this meeting.
