The Council of the European Union has published a notice of meeting and provisional agenda for an Ad Hoc Working Party on the Multiannual Financial Framework (AHWP MFF) scheduled for 7 July 2026. The meeting, convened by the Council General Secretariat, will focus on the presentation of the Irish Presidency's priorities for the next long-term EU budget, covering the 2028-2034 period.

The working party is a key forum for intergovernmental negotiations on the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF), which sets the EU's spending limits and priorities for seven years. The 7 July session will allow the Irish Presidency to outline its vision for the budget, potentially shaping the direction of negotiations among member states. Delegates will also have the opportunity to raise any other business.

The meeting is configured as 1+2, meaning each delegation may bring up to two advisors. Attendance registration is required via the delegates portal, and Council documents will be made available through the same platform, with paper copies provided by room attendants upon request.

This working party meeting marks an early step in the MFF negotiation process, which typically involves extensive discussions among member states, the European Commission, and the European Parliament. The Irish Presidency's priorities could influence resource allocation across EU policies, including cohesion, agriculture, research, and migration, and may reveal early areas of consensus or divergence among member states. The outcome of the working party will feed into subsequent negotiations, with the aim of reaching a political agreement before the current MFF expires at the end of 2027.
