On 24 June 2026, the Council of the European Union adopted the Digital Omnibus on AI regulation, amending the AI Act and related rules to simplify implementation. The legislative act modifies Regulations (EU) 2024/1689, (EU) 2018/1139 and (EU) 2023/1230. Greece entered a formal statement expressing strong dissatisfaction with the four-month grace period for mandatory labelling of AI-generated content under Article 111(4) as amended, arguing the postponement undermines trust in information and democratic processes. Greece had previously submitted a statement during Council-level discussions on the negotiating mandate requesting no extension. Despite the objection, Greece supported the compromise text, thanking the Cypriot Presidency for reaching it quickly. The adoption marks the final step in the Council's first-reading procedure, with the regulation now set to enter into force after publication in the Official Journal.
