More than 100 Belizean artists and cultural practitioners have benefited from training, exchanges, residencies and international exhibitions through the EU-funded Transcultura Programme, implemented by UNESCO, the EU Delegation to Jamaica, Belize, and The Bahamas reported on 1 July 2026. The initiative aims to strengthen professional development and entrepreneurship in the cultural and creative sectors.
Among the beneficiaries is photographer Abdon Tzib of San Antonio, Cayo, who participated in the PHotoESPAÑA festival in Madrid in 2024, connecting with curators and cultural professionals. In 2025, he won the Transcultura Environmental & Landscape Photography Contest and exhibited his work in Cuba. Tzib has since taught photography to over 50 children. Belize City entrepreneur Landee Longsworth, founder of Sol Clay Jewellery, received an EU-funded scholarship to study jewellery making and ceramic art in Caltagirone, Sicily, and has expanded her business to include ceramic home accessories and summer clay art classes.
The press release highlights how the EU support helps creatives build confidence, strengthen their craft, and turn talent into opportunity, while sharing Belizean culture globally. No prior coverage of this specific programme was available in the EU Matrix database.
