Romanian Senator Stefan Geamănu of the AUR party criticized the government's decarbonization ordinance OUG 20/2026, arguing that planned shutdowns of lignite and coal-fired plants threaten energy security and workers’ livelihoods. He accused the government of sacrificing entire counties to meet the Green Deal and Fit for 55, and urged extending plant closures to 2031 instead of the proposed 2025–2026 deadlines. He highlighted the recent rehabilitation of Group 5 at Roвинari (Roвинari) as an investment that should not be scrapped and warned that political decisions made in Brussels could hurt Romanian families during winter. He also criticized the government for dictating energy policy from Brussels and for prioritizing Brussels over local miners and energy workers.
