The European Union, through its EUFORT-EC and SEACOP projects, trained 26 Ecuadorian prosecutors, specialized judges, and officers from the National Police and Navy in maritime drug trafficking investigation and prosecution, in a course held from 26 to 29 May 2026 in Guayaquil. The training aimed to strengthen inter-institutional coordination and national capacities to prevent, investigate, and prosecute crimes related to maritime drug trafficking.
The course was funded by the EU's Foreign Policy Instruments (FPI) and implemented by Expertise France. It brought together participants from various institutions involved in the fight against drug trafficking, including the judiciary, police, and navy. The training covered trends in maritime drug trafficking, criminal structures, drug concealment techniques, investigation methodologies, and best practices for improving institutional response.
Key outcomes included the strengthening of coordination between justice operators and security agencies, exchange of operational experiences, and the development of recommendations to enhance the national response against transnational organized crime. The activity is part of broader EU cooperation efforts to support Ecuador in consolidating coordinated responses to security threats.
No prior EU coverage of this specific training event exists in the last 180 days.
