“Um, thank you, Mr. President. Um, well, the commission has well noted the comments that have been made today by, uh, the MEPs. I would like just to take the opportunity today to recall a little bit or two to refresh your mind on the on the background of this, of this application by a company. So, um, in June 2020, the commission received an application from an Italian company, which is called Societa Agricola Italiane Cricket farm. Um, to place on the market Acheta domesticus powder. Um and it was a request to place um, the powder of this, uh, insect as an ingredient in a number of food products. Um, the company also asked for the protection of proprietary data for a number of studies that have been submitted in support of the application in 2020 2nd January 2022. The Commission requested Efsa to carry out the risk assessment of this specific application. So the Acta Dominicus Decrease in the number of food products. In June 2004, Efsa adopted its scientific opinion on the safety of this product, and the Commission has therefore prepared a draft regulation to be presented to the Member States. It was presented in February 2025, so just a few weeks ago, and it was presented to Member States in the context of the Standing Committee of Plants, Animal Food and Feed. So I would like to clarify that it was only presented to Member states, but no vote took place in February. So, um, so I just wanted to clarify that because I wasn't sure it was clear for the MEPs here. And as I said, as the Commission, we are taking note of the comments. And I thank you, Mr. President.”
