On 24 June 2026, the Council of the European Union adopted a decision appointing four members and four alternate members to the Management Board of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) for a four-year term from 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2030. The appointees represent civil society and food chain interests across four categories: consumer organisations, environmental NGOs, farmers organisations, and industry organisations.

The decision follows a list of candidates submitted by the European Commission on 12 March 2026 and the European Parliament's views expressed on 4 June 2026. The appointments are made under Article 25(1a)(c) of Regulation (EC) No 178/2002, which establishes EFSA. The term is renewable only once.

In the consumer organisations category, the Council appointed Mr Agustín REYNA as member and Ms Izaskun MARTÍN CABREJAS as alternate. For environmental non-governmental organisations, Mr Martin DERMINE was appointed as member; the alternate was not listed in the text. Farmers organisations are represented by Mr Max SCHULMAN as member and Mr José María CASTILLA BARÓ as alternate. Industry organisations will be represented by Ms Roxane RÖTHLISBERGER FELLER as member and Mr Alejandro David RODARTE CASTREJÓN as alternate.

The decision enters into force on the date of its adoption. The new board will oversee EFSA's work on food safety risk assessment, which directly impacts EU consumers, food producers, and the agri-food industry. The appointments ensure stakeholder representation in EFSA's governance, balancing consumer protection with industry interests.
