The Council of the European Union has received a proposal from Austria to re-appoint Mr Matthias Stadler as a member of the European Committee of the Regions for the 2025-2030 term. The cover note, dated 3 July 2026, was sent by Ambassador Gregor Schusterschitz, Austria's Permanent Representative, to Council Secretary-General Thérèse Blanchet.
Mr Stadler, Mayor and Municipal Councillor of St. Pölten, is seconded by the Austrian Association of Cities and Towns. His re-appointment follows the municipal election in St. Pölten on 25 January 2026 and the constitutive meeting of the municipal council. The nomination confirms his continued role representing local and regional authorities in the EU advisory body.
The Committee of the Regions is composed of 329 members from EU member states, representing regional and local entities. Austria holds 12 seats. The Council is expected to formally adopt the appointment in due course.
